The awards were announced today (May 3) and by the time the smoke cleared, “Eclipse” had been nominated for eight awards, including Best Movie, Best Fight and Best Kiss.
Rob, Kristen and crew just edged out “Inception,” which got some Oscar love earlier this year. The sci-fi fantasy film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt received seven nominations.
It was followed by “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” with six nominations. All three films have all been nominated for Best Movie and will compete with “Black Swan” (four nods) and “The Social Network” (five nods) for the night’s top prize, according to the network.
Teen sensation Justin Bieber debuts in the contest for Best Jaw-Dropping Moment from his movie “Never Say Never.”He competes against James Franco (“127 Hours”), Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page (“Inception”), Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) and Steve-O (“Jackass 3D”).
Can’t count Steve-O out. Stewart and Pattinson each took home a best performance win at last year’s show, and are competing in those respective categories, again.
For Female Performance, Stewart goes up against Emma Stone (“Easy A”), Emma Watson (“Deathly Hallows”), Jennifer Aniston (“Just Go With It”) and Best Actress Oscar winnner Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”), according to MTV.
For Best Male Performance, Pattinson will face off against Radcliffe (“Deathly Hallows”), Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network”), Taylor Lautner (“Eclipse”) and Zac Efron (“Charlie St. Cloud”).
This year, MTV is introducing a new category, Best Line from a Movie, which pits the likes of Jessie Eisenberg in “Social Network” (“If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you’d have invented Facebook”) against Tom Hardy in “Inception” (“You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling”) and Alexys Nycole Sanchez in “Grown Ups” (“I want to get chocolate wasted”).
Fortunately to win an award, Rob and Kristen won’t have to deal with members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, mostly people who work in the industry and may actually know something about acting and production values.
Anyone can vote for the MTV Movie Award winners, simply by going to MTVMovieAwards and casting a vote, or two or 20. Voting ends June 4 for all of the awards except Best Movie. The polls will remain open for that category throughout the awards show.
